This is a nice setting. Full of flavour and character. For it's best presentation, perhaps you might make it a sub-page of the settings page.

RE: New update

Watching the walls shake, Kren mutters, "Well time for a different approach." Then louder he says to Black, "Help me, grab that stout rope from my vehicle and secure it to the gate." Kren stokes the engine hotter leaving it out of gear. With the rope secure at both ends, Kren hopes into the driver seat and pushes the lever into the lowest gear for the most power and releases the break. The machine groans loudly steam whistles sharply. The wheels squeel... and then ....
I use Kren's Absent Minded Engineer cliche 4d6=6 to pull the gate off its hinges. But I could not have rolled worse! Sigh
Does his car explode? Or perhaps the rope breaks and he drives into a wall?

Rotwang scurries off.
By: ,
Nov 20 2009, 10:36 AM EST
I don't think that I will have the time to devote to keeping track of the thread and to post to it with the sort of dedication and value that I would wish to. Real life has become very busy of late and is likely to remain so for an undefined amount of time.
If it can be written in that Rotwang wriggles free, drops the cat-man's macguffin and scurries off, that would allow for his introduction at a later time, should my schedule calm down.
Have fun with the story, and thanks for the original invitation.

The proposed setup is as follows. On the FRIDAY of every other week I will move the action forward some, providing new options and situations.
By the following WEDNESDAY I will have responded to each character's choices and informed them of results.
For dice rolling I strongly recommend Invisible Castle. (ie. http://invisiblecastle.com/)
The game will go slowly, but is dependent on player's keeness. I am very open to suggestions about how to do things better, resources and as mentioned above, setting suggestions.
Thanks, ChromeKnight
The aim is some collaborative storytelling in what seems to be in interesting world, though this is a wiki so feel free to edit the setting page to push it in the direction of coherency and originality.

You can always arrange to use a 3rd party web based die roller that sends a message to your GM. There are several. One that was recommended to me was http://invisiblecastle.com/

as in i hate bumping dead threads, but a few friends and I are going to be playing soon and I was wondering if there were any good rules for sueprheroes? I got to the Risus Supers page and that was helpful, but what of dice? What's a good standard? a regular 10 dice but using d8's or d12's instead? Maybe making them 20 dice characters? or 15 dice + a random d6 more dice for them to distribute or something?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I'll post bits and pieces from the first two incarnations as I can untangle them. There is tons of material; and I'd hate to bury Risus's simplicity.
Do have some nice pics.

Not that anyone is listening. Risus of Arabia is dead in the water (buried in the sand?). The Pulp group didn't work out and the Open Game night is going nowhere; I'm going to take a break, fold the tents, pack them up, tuck them away in a sand swept cave.
Jeff has given up on the Open Game nights and has temporally forsaken Risus. He's going back to work on his Buffyverse White Hat campaign, which is run on Fudge or Over the Fudge.

Thanks! If you get a chance to try it, let me know how it works for your group. I haven't had a chance to use it with Risus yet, but we have so much fun counting dice this way with FT, it seemed like a natural fit for Risus, as well. The exploding dice especially makes every roll exciting (one of the reasons I love Savage Worlds!)

My group really enjoys this alternative system for two reasons: 1) it protects them somewhat from the vagaries of dice rolling because they have some choice over what cards to play when and 2) it allows them to play somewhat tactically from their hand by storing/playing trump suits as appropriate.
A couple of suggestions: Before starting with this alternative, the GM should decide how tough s/he wants to be on players trying to make inconsequential cliche checks in order to slough bad cards. Depending on the tenor of your game, of course, this may or may not be an issue. In crisis situations (combat or other conflict) I allow a player to "focus" his or her energy; i.e the player may choose to take no action other than discarding her edge in cards and drawing an equal number of cards from the deck.
One other suggestion I offer is that a group use two decks of cards for this system, but only one set of spades. I have found that with only a single deck, the GM is quickly holding all the spades (after all, in most groups there are more players than GMs playing a lot more cards) even when s/he doesn't want or need them. Another option might be to limit the GM to no more payback cards than players in the session. Once the GM's hand is full, additional spades played are discarded as normal.

So, I think it would be great to get one of those Christian fish and put the word Risus in it. And also make it out of light purple metal. I have no idea how we'd do this, but it'd be great! Who's with me?
